Case study: GlenWyvis Distillery

Whale-like-fish was appointed by GlenWyvis Distillery – the world’s first 100 per cent community-owned distillery – to assist with PR and social media activity in 2021.

Among the highlights of our work with the Dingwall-based distillery was launching its inaugural release Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky in December 2021.

We worked with the team to prepare for the launch, including putting a call out amongst the distillery’s members and on social media for models to be featured in lifestyle photography with the new whisky, teasing the launch on social media and pitching the launch to media, as well as a sampling campaign for media and relevant influencers.

Our media campaign resulted in coverage in The Herald, The Scotsman, The Daily Record, Ross-shire Journal, Press & Journal, The Drinks Report, Inside the Cask, Whisky Experts and The Whisky Business, amongst others.

Following the success and rave reviews of GlenWyvis Distillery’s inaugural release, we were delighted to help spread word of the release of its second whisky, GlenWyvis Single Malt Whisky Batch 02/18. Coverage of Batch 02/18 was achieved in publications including the Ross-shire Journal, The Highland Times, About-drinks, Whisky Experts and Whisky Intelligence.

In January 2023, we were excited to launch GlenWyvis Distillery’s GoodWill Fund; a fund made up from five per cent of all online sales of GlenWyvis whisky and gin. Our media relations encouraged Ross-shire communities and organisations with initiatives with educational, cultural or entrepreneurial benefits to apply for the fund. Once the successful applicants have been chosen, we look forward to sharing details of their initiatives and following how the funding will help deliver them.

Other campaigns Whale-like-fish has communicated to media include:

  • Call for voluntary directors to the Board
  • GoodWill Gin sold on board the Golden Horizon, the world’s largest square-rigged sailing vessel
  • Launching ticket sales for A Midsummer Night’s Dram; a fundraising event in partnership with Cornerstone

In addition, Whale-like-fish has assisted the team with the following activity:

  • Developing shortlists of events and festivals for GlenWyvis Distillery to attend
  • Drafting newsletter copy and designing email headers
  • Social media content, including Black Friday promotional material and cocktail recipe cards
