Case study: InverEndo

Endometriosis awareness and InverEndo support group launch

In March 2026, coinciding with Endometriosis Action Month, we helped Fay Cartwright launch an endometriosis support group, InverEndo.

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women in the UK. Yet many report mixed care, with patients often being dismissed or being told that symptoms are “normal”. That’s why Fay – who is a nurse – wanted to take action by putting a call out to media highlighting the condition, the mixed care being reported by women across the country and launch a support group for people in Inverness and the surrounding area.

Whale-like-fish created a press release detailing the issues being faced by Fay, including figures illustrating how debilitating the condition is and how it impacts her everyday life, including:

  • Fay was hospitalised approximately 50 times in 13 years
  • Received mixed care, being told there’s nothing wrong with her, it’s all in her head and it’s just a bad period
  • Medical advice given included being told to have a baby, radical surgery or try various contraceptives to “cure” her endometriosis

The press release shared details of InverEndo and Fay’s aims for the support group, which include:

  • Monthly meet ups for members – over coffee, trips to the cinema, walks, community saunas or other organised events where they can share their experiences with others who know what they are going through.
  • Provide a safe space for women with endometriosis, giving them somewhere local to lean into and potentially, together, take action to campaign for improvements to endometriosis care.
  • Raise awareness of the condition locally and nationally, encouraging other endometriosis sufferers to start similar groups in other areas of the country.

We offered media interviews with Fay to share her story and details of the group. Results included coverage in STV News at 6, STV News online, BBC Radio Scotland (Highlands and Islands news), Daily Record, Press & Journal, Inverness Courier, The Highland Times, Deadline News, and it was also picked up by the Press Association, resulting in coverage in Ireland Live and The Morning Star.

Media outreach also created a great buzz locally, attracting 150 members to the InverEndo group on Facebook within the first few weeks, with dozens of posts shared by members.

Anyone who wishes to join InverEndo can send a request to the Facebook group here.
