Four years on from starting Whale-like-fish and we are immensely proud to represent the key sectors of the Highland economy. From salmon, whisky and tourism to infrastructure and industry – it’s never a dull day at Whale-like-fish.
Here are some of our highlights from the past year.
Loch Ness by Jacobite
As you might know by now, our brand was inspired by the most famous Highlander and arguably most successful PR campaign, Nessie herself. So, we were absolutely delighted to be asked to represent Loch Ness by Jacobite. Not only does this five-star tour company welcome over 325,000 visitors a year to sail on the majestic Loch Ness, it is also run by one of the most successful businesswomen in the Highlands, Freda Newton MBE. An inspiration all round, our first campaign, most fittingly was to mark International Women’s Day.

Pat Munro

As the Scottish Government and local councils put plans in place to achieve net zero by 2045, the role of active travel is becoming increasingly important. Whale-like-fish was pleased to act as public liaison officer for the construction of the Raigmore Active Travel Link. Opened in 2022, this infrastructure allows people to safely walk, wheel or cycle, accessing Inverness Campus and Inverness Shopping Park.

Scottish Plant Owners Association (SPOA)

You can’t build new infrastructure without diggers and we certainly know more than one man with a digger at Whale-like-fish, being fortunate enough to represent the trade association for plant owners in Scotland. 2022 saw us tackle the issue of red diesel and embark on a campaign to delay the removal of the rebate. This achieved significant national media coverage and raised awareness of the issue in March. We then ended the year with blanket media coverage again but this time about Jay Currie – one of the youngest people qualified to operate a dump truck.

Mowi
We are proud to represent the largest salmon farming company in Scotland and indeed the world with Mowi. A client since the beginning, we enjoy highlighting the amazing work that goes on to support rural communities all over Scotland, from providing well paid employment with good career progression to donating money and product to over 100 different organisations and supporting the game that is synonymous with the Highlands – shinty!

Sport

Speaking of shinty, Whale-like-fish has also branched out into supporting grassroots sports with our sponsorships of Highland Rugby Football Club and Loch Ness FC. With Highland RFC marking its centenary in 2022, we were delighted to support the club in celebrating this milestone. Loch Ness FC, on the other hand, is a relatively new kid on the block (much like us) but is already a force to contend with in the North Caledonian League.
Goodwill
We leave you with two goodwill stories. The first is the GoodWill Fund from GlenWyvis Distillery, which is putting money raised from the sales of its gin and single malt whisky back into the community. We were pleased to raise awareness about the first round of £10,000 available to the local community in Ross-shire.
The second is Amelia’s Young Highlander Awards. It remains our privilege to support mum Kelly Macrae in her efforts to recognise inspirational young Highlanders and support those organisations that are dedicated to the health, wellbeing and education of young people.
